Description
Approach
This is a photo manipulation of an image of Mars and it's two moons, Phobos and Deimos, from the Hubble Telescope. I wanted to create the feeling of approaching Mars and the sensation of how the first travelers would feel when they realize that they have really arrived! I would think excitement, awe and fear of the unknown would definitely be at the top of the emotions list!
Moons of Mars
The moons of Mars are Phobos and Deimos. Both moons were discovered in 1877 by Asaph Hall and are named after the characters Phobos (panic/fear) and Deimos (terror/dread) who, in Greek mythology, accompanied their father Ares, god of war, into battle. Ares was known as Mars to the Romans.
