About the Swamp Tour:
So we went on a private swamp tour given by "Liz the Gator Queen" from the History Channel's "Swamp People". A gorgeous, relaxing tour of Bayou Black in Gibson, La - it was an incredible adventure! I only wish I knew how to work my camera to get some of the gorgeous sights we continuously encountered. We were treated to stunning views of the many waterways of the swamp, gorgeous cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, bald eagles, blue herons, egrets, a baby alligator and 1 huge alligator sunning himself - Liz said he was at least a 10.5 footer! We were very lucky to see him as we were warned that a gator-sighting was slim due to the time of year (best time is April/May) So down-to-Earth and generous, Liz worried we were disappointed that we hadn't seen a gator and made it her mission to go to out-of the-way areas to find that
gator for the boys! Well, she found him - he was huge - named him "Sneaky"
and I have a feeling he maybe on an upcoming episode of Swamp People! It was a beautiful day in the low 70's (unheard of in November!) with a handful of cousins (old and young) and The Gator Queen Liz freely sharing the sights and secrets of her domain. I found it hard to think of her as anything but another cousin (who just happened to hunt gators on a successful and wildly popular television show!) CHOOT EM LIZ!
The day was wonderful and it was a real treat to spend the day with family
in a setting so beautiful, so completely and utterly different from my everyday
life and concerns.
Special Thank You:
* Diana for all the planning and negotiating you did with Liz and
Justin to make this awesome tour possible!
* Buddy and Gail for paying my way onto the boat! Love You Guys!
* Gail for all the support and rides (and talking me into going on the tour!)
* Cayden,Dylan and James for reminding me of the joy of discovery!
You guys are great and I love you all very much!
About the photography:
First, I am NOT a photographer, and I totally own that statement! :) My camera was set on "smart-mode" meaning I wasn't required to do all the "photo-mojo" that real photographers deal with. Well not sure if I did something wrong or touched a button I shouldn't have, but all of my photos came out with a "painterly" effect... Being an artist, this happy accident worked out great in my opinion!!! So please, use the "full-resolution preview"tool to see what the photo looks like before purchasing. These ARE NOT HDR photographs -- not even close -- they are more like impressionistic renderings!
